Career Week for Cook Capped with CSAC Honors
Senior takes home second Player of the Week honor after reaching several milestones
Erika Cook has been named the CSAC's Softball Player of the Week for the week ending April 19
Aston, PA – Marywood University’s Erika Cook has been named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Softball Player of the Week for the week ending April 19th. Cook enjoyed an outstanding week at the plate and in the field as the Pacers went 7-1 (5-1 CSAC).
In 26 at-bats, Cook hit .500, tallying 13 runs on 13 hits which included two doubles, four triples and an inside-the-park home run. In a win over the College of Notre Dame on Saturday April 18, Cook reached the 200-career hit milestone and in the process tied Pacer Hall of Fame member Renee Jourdanais’ single-season record of nine triples.
The senior second-baseman from Wyalusing, Pennsylvania remained perfect in the field as well, completing 19 putouts and adding 13 assists without an error for the Pacers. Cook has not committed an error this season. Cook added a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .897 on-base percentage to her accomplishments for the week, along with five stolen bases in five attempts.
Cook, who was also named the Conference’s Player of the Week on March 22, is also currently tied with Hall of Fame member Rose (Kuchwara) Jacklinski with 18 career triples. She has already established career records for hits (207), runs scored (149) and is on-pace to break the career record for highest batting average.
Cook and the Pacers return to the diamond Wednesday with a non-conference doubleheader at the University of Scranton. The twin bill will start at 6:00 pm at Tripp Park in Scranton. Marywood (23-8) is one win shy of tying the school single-season record for wins in a season, which was set in 1988 by the ESAC Championship team that went 24-3.
