Scranton, PA – Post-season accolades continue to roll in for Marywood University women soccer players Andrea Barker and Lisa Hanselman as the duo became the first-ever Marywood players to be named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Scholar All-East Region Second Team. Barker and Hanselman were each recently named to the NSCAA’s All-Region team as soccer players, but today’s honors highlight both their athletic and academic success as student-athletes. The duo were the only CSAC players to be named to the First, Second or Third Team.

Barker, and English Education major from Binghamton, NY, was named to the second team as a defender after maintaining a 3.73 grade point average. A junior tri-captain for the Pacers, Barker was a First Team All-CSAC selection for the second year in a row and helped lead Marywood University to a record-setting season. Barker became the only Marywood player to be honored multiple times by the NSCAA when she was selected to the Third Team of the NSCAA’s Mid-Atlantic Region team earlier this month.

Hanselman, a senior forward from Manheim, PA, was also named to the College Scholar Second Team. Also a tri-captain for the Pacers, Hanselman maintains a 3.89 grade point average as an Art Education major and led the Pacers with 18 goals and 39 points in her final season. The 2009 CSAC Women’s Soccer Player of the Year was a First Team All-Conference selection and was named to the NSCAA’s Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team.

“Obviously we are thrilled for both Lisa and Andrea that they were recognized by the NSCAA for their hard work both on and off the field of play” Head Women’s Soccer Coach Andrew Smith said. “Both are positive role models for other members on the team by showing that hard work can lead to success both in the classroom and on the field of play.”

Marissa Ruda was the only other player in Marywood history to earn a College Scholar honor as she earned an Honorable Mention selection in 2007.

Centenary College’s Bianca Santulli, Ashley Gerber and Cheryl Stark were the only other CSAC players to be honored by the NSCAA as College Scholars as all three were named as Honorable Mention selections.
